Buddha Mountain - Khao Chi Chan

Buddha Mountain (Khao Chi Chan) is a striking limestone cliff in Sattahip, south of Pattaya, with an enormous seated Buddha image outlined in gold across the rock face. The artwork was created using laser-guided techniques in 1996 to mark the 50th anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej's accession to the throne. Showing the Buddha in the earth-touching posture, it draws on traditional Sukhothai and Lanna artistic styles and is a meaningful Buddhist landmark. From the landscaped grounds below, visitors can appreciate the remarkable scale of the image and the contrast between its golden outline and the natural rock. The open-air garden provides a peaceful place to admire the cliff, take photographs and enjoy the surrounding scenery. Unlike a temple complex filled with buildings, the experience here centers on monumental Buddhist art set directly into the landscape, making it a distinctive cultural stop in the Pattaya area.
